The box tree moth has become a significant problem throughout Europe. Existing control methods such as chemical pesticides, plastic sheeting, or lime are often harmful to the environment, pose health risks, are costly, and have only limited effectiveness. Manual removal of the caterpillars, while gentle, is time-consuming and economically inefficient.

Conventional insect nets without spikes also fail to provide a satisfactory solution: they keep out not only pests but also beneficial insects. At the same time, moths can land despite the net and lay their eggs through the mesh into the boxwood.
